hound commission by markerguru hound commission by markerguru
ok, so here is the finished hound commission
i gotta say i had a lot of fun with this image
it's been a while since i did something like this.
the only thing i will say is there are a lot of layers of colour here. i think i did 3 layers just to get the base coat for the dark gray areas. now i need to refile some of my markers isnce this sucker eat up most of them. not complaining, but i'd love it if i could get more life out of them. then again, i do use them a lot at conventions. oh well.
so after seeing how this one turned out, i'm very happy with it, and i think i will do most of my single character commissions like this. well unless i feel something different would look better.
i guess i'll just have to wait ant see what i come up with next.
until then enjoy :3

commission done with pencil then pen and ink, copic markers, white prismacolor pencil, and white sakura gel pen on 11x17 strathmore smooth comic page.

Guess what was used (at least credited too!)?  www.slashfilm.com/first-look-a… People want YOUR design more than the actual movie version!  Me too!

I would so love to see Hound in Prime or even back in the recent Animated series... That and the movie too! One of my fave gen-1 characters...

Wonderful drawing. Hound looks solid and ready to go. Very well done. As cool as the movies have made the transformations, there's something elegant in the simplicity of the ways the toys transformed and I think you captured that in spades here (with some clever tweaks). The general layout is inspired (like the fade to his name), and the colors look fantastic.

Incredible. It's a step up from the warm-up sketches of Soundwave, Megatron, and Starscream. I'm going to have to get in on this in the near future.

You should do a whole series like this. This is such a great idea. I like how you even put the name of the character into it. Hm...

so you didn't sketch this out in pencil first? You just went straight to pen and ink and then crushed it like a marker rockstar? You a beast!

no i did use pencil to sketch it out, but then i erased it. i guess i could have put that in the description but i just listed what media is still on the page. guess i can add it in there so it won't cause confusion :)

aww man, I thought you were like some kind of super-god. Now that I know you used a pencil first, it is like you are just a regular god. ;) Still, you got those marker skills!

i guess i could draw it straight with pen first. it would just have taken a while longer. i've done it before. nothing as big as this, but i can do it. i just don't like how long it takes.

This did turn out fantastic. While all of the super-shiny computer-colored 'bots do look cool, I still really enjoy seeing them through your traditional-medium eyes. You catch an amazing range of subtle shades with those Copics!

SO HONOURED/GRATEFUL/EXCITED/THRILLED/HUMBLED/PUMPED/STUNNED/AMAZED to have this framed on my wall! Wife just looked at it and said, "WOW, he's got TALENT." Usually she looks at comic art and just says, "Whatever..." All my DA peeps, trust me, it's worth it! You will feel like you should give him more. Trust me.

Wow this is awesome. It is nice to see a pic of Hound. As a popular character from G1 he still seems to not be in the spotlight as much. Well done. :)

Where can one find you commission information and details?

That...is awesome. I really loved the lineart of this, but guuuh the traditional marker work. I've been pining for copic markers for awhile now, you just made it worse with this, haha. Anyway, awesome job, as always!

Curious, Did you play with the levels any in Photoshop to get him all crisp like that in the scan? I tend to have to do that with the few grey markers I have, but my scanner is pretty basic so, LOL.

i had to adjust a little because when i scanned it, it didn't look like the original. now it looks closer to how the original looks.
